Hi Everyone !
Today, I’m going to talk about a cathedral: The “Major”. The cathedral “Sainte-Marie-Majeure”, often called the “Major” is the catholic cathedral of the archdiocese of Marseille. The Major company was built in neo-Byzantine style between 1852 and 1893 on the plans of the architect Léon Vaudoyer:
Situated in the district of Joliette in the 2nd district, it raises itself on an esplanade between the “Vieux Port” and the arbor of Joliette. Its architecture and its interior, marble design and porphyre, give him a particular aspect for a religious building. It set up as minor basilica by Léon XIII on January 24th, 1896. Near to the Major, there is the “Vieielle Major” (On the right on this picture):
The ” Vieille Major” is built in the XIIe century in Romanic style. She must be destroyed to allow the construction of the new cathedral but, in front of protests, the choir and a span were preserved.
For the followers of speaking of Marseille:
- Expression with “cacarinette”:
« tu as des cacarinettes dans ta tete toi !» means that you are a little crazy
